CASTORLAND ~ Eldora V. Jackson, 80, of Patty St., Castorland (New Bremen), NY, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home.
Born on April 11, 1930 in Denmark, NY, a daughter of Christopher and Anna May Pebbles Snyder, she was educated in Copenhagen schools.
She married Richard E. Jackson on October 1, 1950, in New Bremen, NY. Mr. Jackson died on July 17, 1972.
Raised on her family’s farm in Copenhagen, Mrs. Jackson often assisted her father with its operation. In her earlier life, she worked as a babysitter for families in Carthage and Lowville. She worked also for the NYS Tree Nursery in Dadville on and off from 1949 until 1968. During the 1950’s, she worked for Climax Mfg. in Castorland, and worked at the former Beaverite Products, Inc. in Beaver Falls in the 1950’s and 1960’s. In the 1970’s, she went to work at the AMF Plant in Lowville from where she retired.
Mrs. Jackson was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of the Lowville VFW Auxiliary, the Lowville American Legion Auxiliary, and was a former member of the New Bremen Fish and Game Club.
In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and playing music with her family’s band. She also liked travelling, camping and visiting with her friends.
She is survived by a son, Gary E. Jackson, Colorado Springs, CO, and a daughter, Mrs. Morris (Sandra M.) McGrath, Lowville, NY , (last known address); three brothers, Wilbert Snyder of Orlando, FL, Ernest Snyder and Gerald Snyder, both of Copenhagen; five sisters, Louise Allen of Croghan, Lois Adner of Sandy Creek, Doris Makuch of Calcium, Gertrude Snyder of Syracuse and Valerie Laribee of Copenhagen; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friends David Lehman, Lowville and Christina Hoch, Croghan who looked after her for many years.
A grandson, 5 brothers, Joseph, Robert, Albert, Milton and Kenneth Roy, and a sister, Shirley Lyndaker, all predeceased her.
Her funeral will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, with the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired, officiating. Burial will be in the New Bremen Rural Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Lewis County Friends of Hospice.

Eldora will be sadly missed by the drivers and staff of the Nutrition Program of Lewis Co. Office for the Aging.
