David J. Buckingham
TOWN OF GREIG, NY ~ David J. Buckingham, 61, 7097 Brantingham Rd., died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at his home, where he was under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice.
Born January 4, 1949, in Lowville, a son of Robert F. and Martha M. Davoy Buckingham, he was graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1968.
He married Susan M. Lyndaker on October 3, 1998, in Brantingham. A previous marriage to Kathy Plantz ended in divorce.
A veteran, David entered the US Air Force on February 14, 1969, and served with the 49th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on February 13, 1973, from Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome. After his discharge, he entered the US Army Reserves and served until his retirement in 1968.
From 1973 until 1976, he worked for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland, afterwhich he became a self-employed logger and truck driver for a number of years. In the early 1980’s, he went to work as a heavy equipment and tracked vehicles specialist at Fort Drum’s Equipment Concentration Site, where he remained until he retired in 2008. In 1997, he and his wife purchased “Buck’s Place” tavern in Brantingham, and operated it until it was sold in 2008 at the time of his retirement.
David was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, for many years. He was a life member of the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion in Croghan. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating.
Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, David J. Buckingham, Jr., and companion, Holly Lehman, of Lowville, and Brian K. Buckingham, and companion, Donna Gatlin, of Lodi, Ohio; two stepchildren, Melissa A. and (husband) Doug Zehr, of Watson, and Matthew Lyndaker, and companion, Ashley Robbins, of Brantingham; 6 grandchildren; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Allan R. and Rosie Buckingham, Thomas W. and Sharon Buckingham and James J. and Patricia Buckingham, all of Croghan, Rodney D. and Shelia Buckingham, of New Bremen, and Robert F. Buckingham, Jr., of Fulton; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Donald Lee, of Croghan, Mary Jane and Ty Olvert, of Wellesley Island, Elaine M. and John Haley, of Bluffton, SC, and Janet M. and Bern Moshier, of Beaver Falls; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
David’s burial will be in Brantingham Cemetery, Brantingham, where a graveside committal service and ceremony with military honors will be held on Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. James Vacco, OFM, of St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, and former pastor of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, officiating. Following his burial, a funeral luncheon will be held for all those in attendance at the Beaver River Memorial Post #1663 American Legion in Croghan.
Calling hours will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Scanlon Funeral Home in Croghan.
Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice.

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Dave for alot of years and always enjoyed working w/him. He will be missed as he is here from work.
