Scanlon Funeral Home was established in 1956 when James J. Scanlon opened the first funeral business in Harrisville, New York. He later expanded the firm by opening a second funeral home in Croghan, New York in 1973, and has since served the Lewis County area longer than any other funeral firm. Jim’s son, James E. Scanlon, associated with the funeral homes for many years, assumed ownership in 1998 and now runs the day to day operations of the family’s business.

We believe that “thoughtful attention to detail” and “caring beyond the expected” has been the measure of our success. We are close in all the ways bereaved families need with a skilled and caring staff with a warm and comforting atmosphere, and with answers and options. While offering newly remodeled, large and spacious facilities in Croghan, we are fully equipped to handle any size or type of funeral service tailored to any family’s specific needs and wishes.
